Armour

Who Makes It: Developed by WestBred, licensed to AgSeco
Pedigree: Experimental wheats including one with wheat variety 2180
This wheat is good for: All of Kansas, Oklahoma, Eastern Colorado & the panhandle of Texas who need a drought tolerant wheat.

Notes: It may not look promising in the spring, but at harvest, it performs. Resistant to the new race of stripe rust.
Will tolerate limited grazing, but cattlemen would do better to look for another variety.

Armour*, had a great year last year and the year before. Along with Everest, this wheat was the most asked-about wheat in our line-up. Armour has a full package that makes it well-worth considering: very good drought tolerance, resistance to the new stripe rust and excellent yield potential. Get your orders in early, as Armour seed sells out fast.

Armour will tend to head out early, but it has a long grain-fill period. While it has an average head size, it often puts out a lot of tillers. This combination explains its high yield potential.

Characteristics:

  • Moderately Susceptible to: Barley Yellow dwarf, Hessian fly, Scab, and Wheat streak mosaic
  • Intermediate resistance to: Leaf rust and Tan Spot
  • Resistant to: Powdery mildew & Soilborne mosaic.
